Artist's Comments

Sort of a pre halloween painting,
painted to the Disturbed album Believe
I love that album

All pallet knife on this, pretty much the entire length of the album to paint it.
Sorry for the picture, glare will always be an issue with this painting as there is so much black,
i've done the best I can, please try and see through the bad picture,

Acrylic on canvas
20x24x1.5 inch

Enjoy

Didn't think i would like this but after looking at it in Full View, I very much like this painting. Your texture came out good. I like the black against the red and then the yellow dots for extra texture.

cheers, its all with the knife so its not as clean as usual, but i think the rough style suits the theme

they are gold, but it didnt come out in the picture.
once again this looks so much better in the flesh, there is glare in the picture, which i dont like.

it is a very textured piece and i like that, all the knife work in this, no brush
which is different to my usual stuff.

thanks for the comment, glad you like it

Yeah gold is reflective and often doesn't come out in scans especially that's why I on't use it anymore.
However I think the spooky feel of this painting is very well executed. I like the large strokes in the black and tha fact there looks like there are two great faces in the top right hand corner.
I realized that the red wasn't just eminating from the small craggy buildings and to this I was shocked to realize that the red was another city. Like an angry shadow overpowering the slums.
lovely.
All abstracts look better in person evidently but again, you seem to have a good photographing ability to capture what one would see up close.

painting to disturbed tends to give me a gothic edge, like painting to classical makes me want to try and paint a monet, never happened yet,
the faces are probably just glare, even on the most overcast and dull day the surface of the black will always reflect,

there is another painting underneath and i thought the best way to cover it would be with the knife, i like the knife now
the red was done first, then i thought a little depth was in order so but the black slums in,
kinda like vampire city, blood red, towers over the mortals village,
i like that,

thanks

Lovely! I like how the red stands out in darkness. It's a striking piece with suggestive shapes of a city at night. Dark, yet so alive.

thanks,
i like the gothic/halloweeny feel to this myself,

when viewed up close the black is all black, so it intensifies the feel of it,

Very good, I like the contrast between the city and the background.
